Fainin's DBU Grant
Did you know that Fainin is funded by the DBU?
We explain what the DBU does and why Fainin is funded.
What is the DBU?
DBU is the abbreviation for the German Federal Foundation for the Environment (=Deutsche Bundesstiftung für Umwelt). The foundation was established in 1990 by an act of the Bundestag.
What does the DBU do?
The DBU aims to promote innovative and sustainable projects in the fields of environmental technology, environmental research and nature conservation as well as environmental communication. The main topics here are climate change, biodiversity loss, emissions and the use of (limited) resources. The funding relates to projects outside of government programmes and primarily supports small or medium-sized enterprises. The funding topics are linked to the UN's 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
The 17 SDGs at a glance:
1. No poverty
2. No hunger
3. Health and well-being
4. Quality education
5. Gender equality
6. Clean water and sanitation
7. Affordable and clean energy
8. Decent work and economic growth
9. Industry, innovation and infrastructure
10. Fewer inequalities
11. Sustainable cities and communities
12. Sustainable consumption and production
13. Climate protection measures
14. Life under water
15. Life on land
16. Peace, equality and strong institutions
17. Partnerships to achieve the goals
How does the DBU provide funding?
The funding includes not only monetary amounts, but also scholarship programmes for doctoral and post-doctoral projects in the field of applied environmental protection. In addition, the DBU awards the German Environmental Prize, which recognises achievements and commitment to the protection and preservation of the environment.
The Fainin team is supported by the DBU through a monthly grant, which is used for the implementation of the app development, the core community building and the establishment of an initial range of rental items in Hamburg and Berlin.
Why is Fainin funded by the DBU?
For the DBU, the following projects in particular are considered eligible for funding: 1. projects that are innovative. 2. projects that are of widespread interest and for which prompt implementation is realistic. 3. projects that bring additional relief for the environment.
In particular, the DBU wants to tackle the environmental problems caused by society's unsustainable economic and lifestyle practices. In this regard, they see an opportunity particularly in solution-oriented, product- and production-integrated environmental protection.
This is where Fainin comes in, as we want to change the way we consume with our sharing network.
Lending and renting is sustainable
One of the main causes of climate change is mass production. This pollutes the environment with emissions and consumes a lot of resources. And this in order to produce goods that are often only used for a short time or far too rarely. If we share with each other, we not only need less overall, but can also give our objects a longer life. Thus, in the long run, there will be a lower demand for new products, which will have an immense effect on mass production.
Fainin thus offers everyone access to a variety of products while promoting sustainable consumption.
