Plenty of sunshine and blue skies – this year we’ve really been spoiled by the summer. But that just makes the switch to colder temperatures all the more difficult.

While those who suffered from the heat were probably happy to see temperatures going down, sun worshippers now fear for the longevity of their tans. Either way, one thing is certain: autumn is really here now. It’s slowly but surely getting cooler, the nights are getting longer, and the leaves are rustling at our feet.

If you’re one of those people for whom summer can’t last long enough: no need to worry, autumn can be very charming, too. We’ve listed 5 fun activities that are perfect for colder weather.

1. Exercising Outdoors

While excessive physical activity is not something most of us are keen on during the summer, autumn is perfect for outdoor sports. Cycling, hiking, inline skating, jogging, and taking long walks are much more fun now that the air is crisp and cool.

2. Enjoying Stress-free Leisure Time

Hanging out on the couch and watching an entire season of your favourite show in the summer? Just going home after work to chill? Unthinkable! After all, you never know when the weather will be this lovely again and whether the bright blue sky won’t be cloudy again tomorrow. So whatever you do, don’t stay indoors. Go to the park, the lake or the beer garden instead! Phew…

With the beginning of autumn, all of this officially comes to an end. Sure, venturing outdoors is still worth it. But colder temperatures are the perfect excuse to simply stay home and make yourself comfortable on the couch – without feeling guilty about not wanting to go to the beer garden with your colleagues yet again.

3. Trying out new Hobbies

4. Baking and Cooking

While the squirrels are busy collecting nuts in your backyard, it’s time to take care of your own layer of winter fat. After salads and similarly light fare were on the menu during the summer, it’s finally time for proper food again. Pumpkin soup, casseroles, hearty stews… and not to forget the cookies to accompany afternoon tea in autumn. Summer? What’s that again?

5. Autumn Crafts

Autumn is the perfect time to reactivate your craft skills. You’ll find the material you need on an autumn walk: chestnuts, leaves, acorns… Now all you have to do is whip out the glue gun and make an entire army of chestnut men!
